2nd Blanket, Bed and Towel Drive a Success

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this year’s Blanket, Bed &Towel Drive.  People really opened their hearts and closets and donated an abundance of ‘keep-warm’ items for needy shelters and rescue organizations.  Big, big thanks!

Oh, To Have That Much Energy!

Cody is a three year-old Golden Retriever with hip dysplasia who’s been swimming with us for a couple of years now.  In addition to maintaining strength, fitness and a superb physique, swimming helps dissipate some of Cody’s abundant energy.  First into the pool and last out, he’s a dedicated waterdog who works hard his entire session.  All we can say is, “Wow, and that’s without caffeine.”  Superb.

Quality of Life and Dignity When Passing

At Two Hands Four Paws we’re all about quality of life.  And that’s quality through your pet’s final days, as well.  Staffers Shawn, Sara and Zinnia recently spent three emotional days at the Spirits in Transition seminar to learn how to help animals pass naturally.  Boss Leslie, who took the course a year ago, attended again to write about hospice care.  Trained in more than just rehab, our staff is dedicated to helping you and your loved one start to finish.  Learn more here.

Quick Hits:

  1. -Prince, a gregarious five year-old Golden boarded with us for two weeks to rehab his surgically repaired left knee and to lose some weight.  Success on both counts - he gained strength and stability in the leg and lost two inches in the waist.  Nice!

  2. -Honey, an elderly (and very proud) Dalmatian stayed for four nights as we worked to get her up and moving after being down for months.  Result?  By day three she walked, unassisted, from the house to the studio, grumbling all the way.  That’s our Honey!  Awesome work, ladies.

  3. -Our protests at stores that sell puppies from puppy mills continue.  Leslie and Bryan joined with many others to get the message out that Barkworks in the Westside Pavilion sells unhealthy puppies.  We’ll keep up the fight and we will win.

Amazing Gracie

Gracie collapsed in mid-september and had hemilaminectomy surgery two weeks later to fix a ruptured disk.  An 8-9 yr old drama queen Basset Hound (Ouch! My ears) she spent a week in the hospital, and was still in pain and unable to stand for more than two seconds when she came to Two Hands Four Paws last November.  She started therapy at 3x per week for a three month period, then dropped to 2x per week and is now coming only every other week.  Her leg strength has returned, along with 2” of thigh muscle.  She hikes the canyons daily.  She’s pain free.  Big props to her owners for their diligence in doing home exercises.  Besides going up and down hills with her two brothers she’s reclaimed her primary job of getting under the covers and yelling at people.  (Ouch!)
